BNB Chain To Host Hacker House at ETH Oxford 2025

BNB Chain will be a key sponsor of the ETH Oxford hackathon held at the prestigious Mathematical Institute of Oxford University. As a global blockchain leader, BNB Chain is committed to fostering the growth of decentralized ecosystems. ETH Oxford provides the ideal platform to connect with one of the fastest-growing developer communities in the United Kingdom and showcase the power and versatility of building on BNB Chain. The hackathon will take place from February 7-9, 2025.

In support of the hackathon, BNB Chain will host a hacker house in Oxford, specifically for developers working on BNB Chain projects. Developers can request accommodation at the hacker house through the ETH Oxford application process.

The BNB Hacker House will host one event that will be open to public: a welcome coffee and breakfast on Saturday, February 8. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to meet and mingle with fellow builders and register now on Lu.ma.

What to Expect In The ETH Oxford Hackathon Event

We believe innovation thrives in the absence of constraints, so we’re not setting any fixed tracks. While we’re particularly excited about two transformative areas—Decentralized Science (DeSci) and AI—developers are encouraged to explore and build freely, guided by their own research and vision.

  • DeSci: Decentralized research paper publication, decentralized research milestone verification, such as testing result proof generation, etc.
  • AI: Decentralized data labeling applications, AI agents, AI-powered dApps, etc.

The hackathon features a $8,000 in cash prize with rewards worth $158,000. The top team will be awarded a $3,000 cash prize, a $100,000 kickstart package, a direct interview for the MVB (Most Valuable Builder) Program by BNB Chain, YZi Labs (formerly Binance Labs), and CoinMarketCap; along with a month of dedicated technical support. Second and third-place teams will also be generously rewarded with cash prizes and kickstart packages. Additionally, there is a special $2,000 bonus for the best project(s) built on BNB Greenfield, BNB Chain’s decentralized storage network.

To be eligible for rewards, your project must meet the following criteria:

  • Projects must be new developments to ensure equal opportunity. All submissions that have participated in any past hackathons or have previously been funded will automatically be disqualified.
  • Work must be deployed on or connected to opBNB/BSC mainnet or testnet in some way, open source, and free for others to use.
  • Shared artifacts (GitHub, deck, and demo video).
  • Ensure the contract address has at least 2 successful transactions within the hackathon timeframe.
  • A tweet describing your project, tag @BNBChain & #BNBOxford, and the specific track you are applying for.
  • If you have any questions, join us on BNB Chain’s Discord and Telegram for Developers.

Scoring Criteria

How to Improve Your Scores:

  • Verify Your Contracts: Ensure your contracts are verified on Explorer.
  • Open-Source Codes: Provide full open-source code with a reasonable commit history and mark your weekly milestones. This helps communities and judges recognize your innovation and contribution.
  • Roadmap: Present a detailed roadmap that outlines your plans to continue building after the hackathon.
  • Documentation: Create clear documentation or tutorials explaining your project’s functionality and innovation to assist users in trying it out.
  • Community Engagement: Engage with communities or users by obtaining user feedback, showcasing community endorsements, etc.
  • Business Model: Develop a clear business model that demonstrates sustainable revenue generation.
  • Innovative Design: Highlight innovative product and technical design.
  • We encourage multi-dimensional innovation. As long as your project is novel, it will receive high scores from the judges.

Points Leading to Score Reduction:

  • Lack of Novelty Proof: Insufficient evidence to prove the project’s novelty or contribution history.
  • Unrealized Functions: Failure to achieve the claimed functions or innovations.
  • Usability Issues: Difficulty for users or judges to use the project.
