We are excited to share that we are planning to expand in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Unveiled during the Binance “Off the Charts!” Virtual Conference, this follows the high demand from our MENA communities as well as our plans to cater and develop services for the region including educational efforts.
In light of this, we have recently enlisted Omar Rahim as Director of MENA to initiate and spearhead our anticipated expansion plans. Omar will lead corporate strategy and development in MENA. He will also work closely with governmental bodies to ensure the highest standard and practices of policies and existing regulatory frameworks in countries throughout MENA.
The team will also expand its local team, internally and externally, and focus on creating partnerships with key local, and compliant, players in the digital asset and blockchain sector across MENA to propel our imminent market developments.
“The MENA region has been instrumental in implementing real applications of blockchain technology with a number of its governments and regulators as a driving force, embracing blockchain with its progressive culture of new technologies,” said Gin Chao, Binance’s Strategy Officer. “Our intention is to provide tangible resources and services including infrastructure support to be a catalyst for the growth of MENA’s blockchain ecosystem.”

Omar joins Binance with a seasoned background in energy trading and worked at a number of funds as a commodities trader across multiple countries. Omar has managed portfolios of more than US $3 billion for leading global energy companies. He has also founded and sold companies in the trading space with an entrepreneurial track record of growing businesses from inception to exit. Omar has been involved in the crypto space since 2016 with a passion for evangelizing the future of money.
